About Us…A Brief Introduction
English wine has been gaining a lot of media attention recently, and rightly so. We have some fantastic producers in the UK, with the highest density of vines planted in the south east of England. Having said that there are also vineyards in Wales, as far north as Yorkshire and we even know of one in Scotland.
What you’ll find is that it is mainly in the south of England that we are able to plant varieties that for the wine drinkers amongst you may be familiar with. Even if you’re not familiar, I think it’s about time that you do because they are quite frankly delicious. They are especially delicious in what has come to be the UK’s most premium and sought after wine; English Sparkling Wine.
A lot of people in the industry have likened ESW to Champagne and I suppose this is a good thing as we all need a point of reference. This way we are able to familiarise ourselves with English Sparkling Wine as a product with a quality and provenance equal to that of Champagne.
For us at Bluestone we actually recognise ESW as a superior quality product in its own right, as would many of our peers. We believe ESW is now a product that doesn’t require the Champagne point of reference to slingshot our industry into the limelight. But really, we should be thanking our friends from across the pond. Alas, it is time for us to soar on our own.
Come and see us, find out more and try our wine
2018 is an extremely exciting year for us at Bluestone. There is lots going on as we have our first wine under the Bluestone brand being released in May. We will also be harvesting our first fruit this year, which will go into a blend of English Quality Sparkling Wine to be released in 2021.
This year we will also be offering our first tours of the vineyard where we’ll show you around the vines, talk you through a typical year in the vineyard touching upon the good and the bad times that we encounter. Then we can move to a nice seated spot in the sun (weather depending) where we can rest our weary legs and taste our sparkling wine and talk through how it’s made, why we make it that way and what we have in the pipeline for the future. As the tour comes to a close you’re welcome to sit, relax and enjoy Bluestone by the glass or by the bottle from the bar at exclusive prices especially for our tour guests.
We look forward to welcoming you and your loved ones to spend some quality time at our little piece of Wiltshire…
