BLUESTONE VINEYARDS IN THE NEWS II

RATINGS AND REVIEWS OF OUR VINTAGE-LED PREMIUM SPARKLING WINE

News of our wines continues to feature in the pages of newspapers and the online columns of wine experts and critics, including our Premier Rosé 2021, Saignée Rosé 2020 and Premier Cuvée 2019.

The Bluestone team were thrilled to receive one gold and two silver ribbons from The Real Review. Wine writer Anthony Rose scored our three cuvees out of 100. His favourite was the Premier Cuvée, which ranked second out of 18 English sparkling wines from the 2019 vintage.

“Mid-gold in colour, this youthful Wiltshire blend based on the 2019 vintage and disgorged in 2023, is attractively aromatic with the biscuity notes of autolysis and it’s well-balanced when you taste, a lively mousse delivering both rich orchard fruit and autolytic biscuity flavours; finishing refreshing, well-balanced and sophisticatedly dry. A discovery.” Anthony Rose.

We have been lucky to feature in City AM twice already. Wine writer Libby Brodie came down to visit us with her son to enjoy a spot of wine tasting and pig racing courtesy of our family’s neighbouring rare breeds farm.

The article  is a mini guide for things to do during half-term (or any school holiday)!

Libby was also kind enough to recommend our Premier Cuvée 2019 in a previous issue.

“It is a treat to discover new English vineyards and I was delighted by this gorgeously silky sparkling that attacks with crystalline citrus and crunchy green apples before opening up generously with stonefruit and sweet brioche. A well-considered, long ageing period adds an assured complexity.”

Tamlyn Currin writes for Jancis Robinson MW – arguably the world’s most influential wine critic.

We are humbled by Tamlyn’s continuous praise for our cuvees. We know the wine is great but it’s reassuring to hear the wine experts and critics do too!

Described as close to the best English sparkling rosé she has ever tasted, Tamlyn reviewed our Saignée Rosé 2020 as:

“Deep pink and in a small blind-tasted line-up, easily the most delicious English sparkling rosé.

Outlandishly, outrageously pouting with fruit, which cannot be explained away by dosage, which is pretty low by any standards, let alone English wine. It's guavas and papaya, blueberries, pink grapefruit and rose hips. It's fruit with hips and jazz and sass and texture like fuzzy peaches and cherry stones and river pebbles. It's mouth-filling and mouth-watering and full-mouth-kissing. It's long, broad, gloriously confident, rich and yet inset, exact, nothing too much or too little. I think this might come dangerously close to the best English sparkling rosé I have ever tasted..? (Which would put it up there in the clouds with my English empyrean trio of favourites.) (TC)”

With a ‘superior’ score of 17.5 points (out of 20) for our Saignée Rosé 2020, this topped both her ‘distinguished’ score of our Premier Cuvée 2019 (16) and Premier Rosé 2021 (16.5).

One of the greatest ambassadors for British wine, John Mobbs, described our Saignée Rosé 2020 as ‘sublime’.

“Every so often, even in the increasingly crowded market of great English sparkling wines, something stops you in your tracks and commands your attention. This Saignée Rosé 2020 from Bluestone is one of those wines. It was one of the highlights of the WineGB trade tasting last month, so it was a joy to spend a bit more time with its deep, colourful and complex charms.”

In a feature online at Luxury London about summer rosés, Annie Lewis described our Premier Rosé as: “A perfect blend of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier to produce a coral-pink English sparkling rose that wouldn’t only look great on your al fresco dining table, but also pairs beautifully with oily fish, tender lamb and a cheeseboard.” Link

Our friends at Drinks International, Drinks Retailing News, Vineyard Magazine and Harpers were also kind enough to feature our new releases.

Thank you to everyone who has tasted and shared our wines.
