BLUESTONE VINEYARDS IN THE NEWS

IN PRAISE OF PREMIER CUVÉE 2019

We are excited to share some ratings and reviews for our new Premier Cuvée 2019 – the first wine made from grapes grown on our Wiltshire estate.

We know the wine is great but it’s reassuring to hear the wine experts and critics do too!

Tamlyn Currin writes for Jancis Robinson MW – arguably the world’s most influential wine critic. In her feature (June 2024) about English wine, Tamlyn gave our Premier Cuvée a ‘distinguished’ score.

Plus, The Evening Standard featured us as one of the ‘Best English Wines to Drink in 2024’.

16/20

Tasted blind in a line-up of 10 English sparkling wines.

A new name to me. It has a very creamy, pillowy, brioche-and-warm-butter topped-with-lemon-curd nose. Big, bold, loose bubbles. And just as I was about to write that it was brioche and butter on the palate too, I was stopped by a blade of lemon-laser acidity which sliced with dazzling speed through any notions of richness. Smoked orange peel and bitter papaya seeds on the finish. It's bracing but full of flavour and crack-snapping the air with energy. Just fabulous with a nutty-sweet aged Gruyère.

Nicky Rampley-Clarke tried and tested a number of ‘home-grown tipples’ and we were ecstatic he included our Premier Cuvee 2019 in the mix.

His verdict? Clean, crisp and refreshing with a real depth of flavour!

92/100

This has a golden hue and plenty of small, streaming bubbles. The nose has loads of walnut and buttered toast, brioche character, yellow apple and citrus adding zip and freshness. There's plenty of fruit sweetness and ripeness on the palate, the dosage adding to that sense of delicious approachability. The acid structure gives a bracing salt and citrus balance, and that toastiness is the third element in a balanced, long finish.

John Mobbs is a great ambassador for British wine and we are thrilled he not only likes our new stylish look but the wine too.

Sporting a stylish new look that is, in my opinion, a huge improvement over the previous branding, this Premier Cuvée is the latest flagship release from Bluestone in Wiltshire. The wine made from the first vintage of fruit from their own vineyard, which was planted in 2016.

The blend is 48.5% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir and 18.5% Pinot Meunier, with 7% reserve wine. The red fruit makes itself present in the glass, as the wine has a gloriously golden hue to it.

On the nose there are classic aromas of apple and citrus fruit, with a decidedly nutty, bready nuance. There are also hints of roasted almonds and a touch of stone fruit.

While the wine has gone through full Malo, it’s got the same linear, driving acidity that the previous release has, making it a great choice for those that love the fresher side of English Sparkling. To counter the acidity, there are riper flavours of peach and apricot, and a nutty pastry complexity on the finish.

There has also been some positive chatter on social media about our Premier Cuvée including a tasting reel from wine influencer Brad Horne @winetimelondon and a post by wine writer and author Margaret Rand @margaret_randpocketwine

Thank you to everyone who has tasted and shared our wines.
